Not All Commercial Locks Are Burglar-Proof: What You Can Do

If you come to work in the morning only to find that a burglar has attempted to crowbar his/her way into the building, you might not feel quite so assured about your security. It is unnerving to discover that a commercial lock is not as burglar-proof as you had thought. Here is what you can do to fix that.

Install Commercial Locks with Alarms

The next time a burglar or intruder tries to break into your work building, have a nasty surprise waiting. Install a commercial lock that also has an attached alarm system. Buy the loudest and most unpleasant alarm that is triggered the minute the intruder tries to break the lock. That should scare him/her off. If it does not, there are a few other things a commercial locksmith can install that will help.

Security Cameras Triggered by Motion

It is costly to run security cameras 24/7. However, you do not have to if you invest in camera systems that are triggered by motion. These security cameras only turn on and begin recording when their motion sensors are jostled by vibration and movement.

You may even be able to wire them into the lock system on the door so that the minute the burglar or intruder tries to jimmy the lock, the cameras turn on and start recording. This is an especially effective method if the burglar or intruder has to work through two door locks and stand in a vestibule between two doors for several minutes.

Install Doors with a Double Locking System

An example of a commercial double locking system is the sliding door used by grocery stores. There is a key lock on the outside of each door. Then there is an overlock on the top of each door inside the store. Every door that is a possible easy entry point inside is double-locked at night. Only one door remains unlocked from the inside, but by the time the burglar/intruder finds it, the police or your security camera will find him/her instead.

Talk to the Locksmith About Other Options

Talk to the commercial locksmith you hire about other options for making your building's doors less accessible. The locksmith can suggest some products and locks that will help. You can examine the prices and see which option would work for your budget, and which ones might be worth installing at a later date when you have more cash.

About Me

Locking Up My Home

About a year ago, I realized that there were some big problems with our home security. We hadn't really taken security seriously, and it showed. I realized that our place was completely vulnerable to a robbery, so I started making some changes. I contacted a great company that offered lock, key, and safe services, and we worked together to bolster the security of my place. We replaced locks, worked hard to install great safes, and even focused on adding a state-of-the-art home security system. This blog is all about locking up your home and preventing problems for the long haul.
