Just when you thought your day could not get any worse, you've locked your keys in your car and you are stuck in a strange place full of unfamiliar people. Unfortunately, this is a situation a lot of drivers will face at some point in their life. Thankfully, you can always count on a locksmith to help you out, but this also means you may be left waiting for a bit for the professional to come to your aid. Safety will probably be your top concern while you wait, so take a look at these three things you should not do when waiting on a locksmith in a strange location.
Do not rely on strangers to try to help you unlock your doors.
There are some tools and tricks that some people claim to be able to use and do to unlock a locked car, such as using what is often referred to as a slim jim to shimmy down between the window and door frame to manually release the lock. While in some cases, these tools and tricks may work, they can also cause damage to your vehicle in the process. Plus, you don't really want to be trusting a stranger when you are all alone in a strange place because you never know if their intentions are truly good.
Do not hang out by your locked car and wait.
Standing beside your locked car and waiting for a locksmith can make you look like a sitting duck and most passersby will probably be able to guess that you are in a pretty vulnerable predicament, which is not what you want. Instead, let the dispatcher at the locksmith service know that you are going to wait somewhere else, such as at a local business or even just a well-lit area if everything is closed.
Do not stay in a dangerous situation to wait on the locksmith.
You may be apprehensive to leave your car in a strange place, but if you feel that the area you are in is dangerous, it is best to just leave your car where it is and call someone to pick you up. You can easily come back to your car when the locksmith gets there. It is also not a bad idea to call up a friend or family member who would be willing to drive to where you are and wait for the locksmith with you.
